What color of eyes do kittens have?

If your kittens are going to have a nice deep green eyecolor, they should turn from
blue to a teal like color (blue-green) and then finally that nice emerald green we all
want to see. If they are to be a lighter green, they might turn from that blue they
are born with to slighly greyish green, or greyish yellow-green and then eventually to
a light green color. Usually I start to see eyecolor changing anytime from about 8 weeks
and older, each kitten is different and has it's own time frame however, but they should be
showing some signs of color change toward green by the time they are at least 12-14 weeks old.

To kittens in a photo 5 weeks. At two brightly blue eyes. Two already have grey-flavovirent eyes. Means at two kittens of dark green eyes will not be. It is very a pity.

Well Vilia, don't give up on them yet, they are still very young!! Kittens don't go to their new
homes until they are about 12-14 weeks old anyway, so you have a good 8-9 weeks yet to see
how their eyecolor develops. It is just a watching and waiting game now!

It is my 4th litter and I still have no idea about eyes changes. It's really difficult to decide so early. I remember Cherry changed from blue to light green and than to deep green. Her eyes where never yellowish and Bacardi has bright green still. Bonny is 3 years old and eyes are a bit yellowish and I can see they still changing. I've heard from RUS breeders that years ago when Russian blue breed was developing it was very common that eyes wasn't perfect. Judge on the show told me that eyes can change more that 4 years even.

Chez nous, les yeux sont parfait vers l'âge de 10 semaines. Ensuite la couleur se dégrade et ne se rétabli que vers 8 mois / 1 an. C'est vrai pour les Bleu Russe et les Mau Egyptien.
Il ne faut pas attendre la couleur des yeux comme un chat attend qu'une souris sorte du mur.....

My experiance is that the longer they stay blue the better they become.
And with eye color it's the same as with the other parts of the cat.... a totaly perfect cat is rare. Beautiful eyes can have a terible tail or......

That is true, we have a russian female now who has a beautiful head, nice earset, WONDERFUL dark green eyes, but her coat is too dark...we will try to lighten up any of her kittens coats with our male Nickers, but who knows? The potential for beautiful head/eyecolor in kittens with both of them is great, but the nice coat may never come down to the offspring! But, if it was so easy, we would all be bored

I was wondering if you could tell by the eyecolour of the parents, if the kittens will develop dark green eyes or not. So, is it possible that the grandparents influence their grandchildren?

I guess it is more complicated. You can not be sure what kitten inherit. For example my Cherry has beautiful eyes, deeply, emerald green. Her mother has light, watery green eyes and father has mixture of green, gray and yellow. I believe that when both parents has good eyes this is only higher probability that kittens will have also.

Under laws of genetics Boys take more from mother, and the girl from both parents. The heredity too matters, not all so is simple. In my cattery I have two cats from the same parents, but at various times, color of eyes at them strongly differs. To fix color of eyes, a wool, often use close, related communications, on the best manufacturers. I looked animals from such cattery-very good results.

So there's no real certainty. I thought indeed that if the parents have deep green eyes, there would be more chance that the kittens would get it too.
