mole attack? attack the mole!
Being winter and groundwater-levels rising my garden has a big attraction for moles. There must be about 200 molehills and it is not a pretty sight. So we placed some mole traps. This morning I was checking the traps and found one caught. Bink instant reaction was to yank the dead mole, still in the trap, from my hands. I managed to get the trap off but now he is playing with his "prey" in the garden, defending it from the other cats and me.
I have denied him access to the house for a wile. I do not want to find a mole in my bed. This week I found pieces of mouse in my bed and Bink is the most likely suspect.
In a wile he will lose interest and I can get rid of the animal.

A friend of mine has a molecatching dog, I can send her to your hills ;-) or do you think that Bink can also finish the hills in your garden as he does with the mice in your bed
Re: mole attack? attack the mole!
I am afraid not. He usually leaves the killing to somebody else and steals it away.
I could consider borrowing that dog. I do not know how the cats feel about a canine guest though.
My cousin has a cat that kills all moles in the neighbourhood. Maybe a cat can get a bigger welcome.

Re: mole attack? attack the mole!
I used to have a dog who caught mole alive! He was bringing them to me keeping carefully in teeth. I wasn't kill them just put somewhere in forest. Your Bink is smart, mole is subservient eats insects and warms, nice just very oppressive I also have big garden with mole hills and I hate when they ruined my lawn
Re: mole attack? attack the mole!
I am happy to have a balcony! I would hate to go to bed in the evening and find some bloody corpses
Re: mole attack? attack the mole!
Problem solved, mole in bin.
Until the next corpse......

Ces chats sont horriblesssssssssssss
Chez nous, il y a très peu de taupes. Elles ne supportent pas le pas des chevaux. Elles vont camper chez les voisins. A eux les joies des taupes égorgées.
Ces histoires sont affreuses.

Yes, he did it again. Now it was alive!
What is underneath these papers?
It is rustling and scratching.
I am afraid to put my paws in. It might bite....
The other catch-of-the-day. Already gone to meet its maker.
Bink is explaining those whimpy Turkish Angora's what hunting is.
The lady caught this strange animal, it is a mole.
Just looking from a safe distance
The mole has survived the adventure. It was not fully mature.
He was not seemingly hurt but I do not want him in her garden no longer.
So I gave him his freedom a long way away. Lucky mole.

I guess the Turkish Angora's object to making their paws dirty. "Only clean toys please, not those creeping, screaming bleeding things."
Bink as a dirt and gravel specialist does not care less. He loves to hunt and can spend hours just keeping watch over the molehills in my garden. But taking one above the surface is quite difficult. Now he had success. There was a dead one in the back house a few weeks back too.
And he is still keeping watch over the building. Relaxing on the scaffolding.

Funny and entertaining story and photos
In our previous house we had problems with mice, when cairy come, it was already a lot less.
But if she finds one i had the mouse in my bed. Actually a very sweet gesture, but prefer not there
Always check your bed when you get in
We also have no problems with moles, we have a dog who like moles and dig them up

And yes.... It definitly is hunting season here.
Bink was seen walking with some prey yesterday by my husband, a blackbird he thought. I came out to check what it was this time. And it was a baby duckling, still alive. I took it from Bink and it seemed unharmed. Only a few days old. Sooooo cute.
How the little duck came in Bink's mouth is still a mystery because Bink cannot go out of the yard. There is no water directly at my yard but a 100 meters or so behind our house runs a little river. It could be that that Mama Duck was leading her children from the nest to the water and had to cross my yard. Or a bird took the little one, dropped it and Bink got away with it.
With the little duck in a bucket I set off to the river to look for a Mama Duck. But it was getting dark soon. So I could not reunite him and it is not wise to do that unless you are 100% sure you have the right Mama.
Last night Ducky spent the night in a cat carrier nicely tucked in some hay and something to keep him warm. At first he was very affraid but is getting more and more at ease. He settles on my lap to go to sleep if I pick him up. Today he moved to the chicken pen, safely behind mesh surrounded by very, very interested cats. He feeds ground chicken feed and has his private swimming pool. Tonight I can call somebody who takes care of orphaned birds. Maybe he still has a chance of a wild life this way.

Re: mole attack? attack the mole!
Alas the little duckling died in my hands this morning. He was comatose when I got up this morning I did my best to warm him and stimulate him with no effort. It was very much alive yesterday. I went to the birdshelter people but they were not at home, to my surprise and dismay. An hours drive back and forth for nothing. I took him back home and settled him in a bench, safe from the cats. He had food, hay, some hotwater bottles , water. Last night he was sleeping on our laps and seemed to do good. So I went to bed reassured. I guess he could not keep himself warm enough by himself and did not have the sense to find himself a warmer spot.

Une triste fin à une belle histoire. Il avait probablement des blessures internes.
