Shorthair Neb?!?!?!
I have been reading here and there "shorthair nebelung". At first I thought it was another way of saying Russian Blue but it appears not!
What is the difference between a shorthair Neb and a Neb?
thanks

Nebelung shortair

Nebelung shorthair is another way of naming a Russian Blue variant. It is the child of Nebelung and a Russian Blue. It is carrying long the coat gene. His/her children can be with short hair or long hair when he/ she mates. With Nebelung I think that the probably is 25% HS, 75% LH.

Re: Shorthair Neb?!?!?!
Hello Laurence and Bernard,
I don't read french, but I think there is a mistake in Bernards answer. Combining a shorthaired nebelung x a shorthaired nebelung = 25% will be nebelung and 75% will be shorthaired but from this 75%, 25% will be really shorthaired not carrying the longhairgene and 50% will carry the longhair gene.
Mating a NEB x shorthaired NEB = 50% will be Neb and 50% will carry the gene.

Je pensais à un mariage Nebelung / Nebelung SH. Je vais regarder le liens " genetic".
Bonne journée à tous. Je pars pour Antwerpen

I thought of a marriage Nebelung/Nebelung SH. I will look at the bonds “genetic”.
Good day with all. I leave for Antwerpen

Re: Shorthair Neb?!?!?!
Officially you have this table but this is just the mathematical side of it. So look at it as the possibility for each kitten. In real live My Aleksandr had 3 litter with 2 different Russian blue variant girls. I also included this “results” in a table. His first mating gave 66 % was short haired, but in total he had 80 % longhaired. So it always about “luck”
Personally I like to use a Russian blue for breeding Nebelung. My Zadorinka is Russian blue variant, her mother a Nebelung, her father a Russian blue.
The genetic pool of the Nebelung is small and using Russian blue will help to widen this. But this is not the only advantage. It also helps to enhance the breed; e.g. to get a better look of the face or a thicker coat, better silver tipping or a nice body shape. I can write down many reasons.
And using a Russian blue and not a foundation cat has for me also the advantage of knowing the genetic background ( it lowers the risk of disorder) .
Still writing more..... just a moment.
Hmmm I have to go......
Like Kirsten said....... Take a look at. http://www.nebelung.nl/nebelung_genetics.html

I hope Bernard is right and that my knowledge is wrong!!! His would be much more convenient
Re: Shorthair Neb?!?!?!
It is ALWAYS good to get outside genes into a line, and breeding a Neb to a RB is always great to keep the
type there, plus, maybe improve things like eyecolor or earset etc.
But, one has to plan this carefully in advance because when you breed the Neb to a RB, your first litter will be all shorthaired (with the LH recessive gene in some of them), so you will have to wait until the best kitten from that litter grows old enough to breed to a LH Neb to finally get maybe a good show kitty. So, the planning comes from making sure you have bred one of your other LH Nebs to at least a Neb carrying the LH recessive so you will have some LH Nebs to show while waiting for your NB/RB cross kittens to grow up and produce their own offspring, otherwise, you end up with big gaps in the shows where there is a year or so that no Nebs are shown because everyone choose that year to outcross to a RB--LOL--that is what happens here, we have just a few breeders and if when people outcross, that means a good year and a half before that cattery has any LH kittens to show.
You are lucky that so many RB breeders will provide stud service to you as none here in the USA will do it, and if one does do it, they will be banned and blackballed for life, they are not nice and friendly over here about the Nebelungs
