Kittens Quda and Orla

Dear all,

Orla delivered 5 kittens on the 29th of december. The delivery started in the early morning at half past 4. She delivered very easily and after 2,5 hours 4 kittens were born. At six I went to bed again and got out at 9.00 o'clock in the morning. Orla was restless but nevertheless I had an appointment with the vet so check how many kittens Quda had in her tummy, as she didn't look big. Also when Quda is pregnant en near delivery she is busy with all the other cats in the household except herself. As she went overtime, with the end of the year coming, I wanted to know what was going on. We took a rontgen and counted 4 kittens, so we went to home again.

When I got home, I found out that Orla delivered another kitten which was dead. I think it sufficated as Orla was in total panic. She was in her catlitter with the smallest kitten of the nest. That day was horrible. Orla was very restless, she only wanted to be with Quda. Quda wanted to replace the kittens, then Orla took them back, etc. Most of time Orla wanted to be with Quda leaving the kittens alone to many times. The only way to keep her by her kittens was when Quda was around. The kittens of Orla already drink milk with Quda. As she was also expecting kittens, the maximum time for drinking was at max one day as her kittens needed the first milk also. Quda her milkproduction was also stimulated as she let Zizo and Zonu drinking with her. So I also had to separate them from Quda, but Quda also got restless from that and called the kittens. Aswell Orla and Quda tried to convince the kittens Zizo en zony by grabbing them in the neck to get in the box also ....

So I think you know how hectic it was ....

As on the 30th Quda still didn't gave a sign she was going to deliver and because of the restlessness of Orla, I called the vet that I wanted a c-section. For the ones reading this don't knowing the history: Quda had 2 litters before all delivered by c-section, and there was a high change that she was not able to deliver normal. Telling the story what was going on in my cattery, the vet agreed.

The next day at half pas 3, we had an appointment. Four beautiful kittens were born. Two males and 2 females. After the c-section, Quda was also spayed. As I knew on forehand this will be last litter, made the decision to the a third c-section easier. Plus I knew (or hoped) that the sooner all the kittens were there the earlier Orla would be calm which would be good for her kittens.

That night one kitten of Orla, the smallest one, didn't move good. Before the c-section, I gave all the kittens extra milk and after I got back again. But it didn't help this kitten as it died. I think it died beacause it was in the catlitter or it was just not fighting enough. This kitten was only 62 grams.

To end positive all kittens are growing good now, Orla en Quda are very happy now, both calm. See the photos.

There is only one female kitten in Orla her litter and this could be a nebelung. Also in Quda her litter 2 females both could be nebelung. It is so difficult to see if it is a nebelung or variant ...

Orla a eu 5 chatons le 29 décembre. La mise-bas a commencé tôt le matin à 4h30. Orla a mis bas facilement en 2,5 heures 4 chatons. A 6h du matin, je suis retournée me coucher et me suis levée à 9h. Orla était agitée mais j’avais un rendez-vous chez le véto pour vérifier combien de chaton attendait Quda dont le ventre n’était pas gros. Il y a aussi le fait qu’étant gestante et proche de la mise-bas Quda s’occupe de tous les chats de la maison sauf d’elle. A la radio, on a compté 4 chatons.

Une fois de retour, j’ai découvert qu’Orla avait mis au monde un autre chaton qui était mort. Je pense qu’il a suffoqué et Orla était totalement paniquée. Elle était dans le bac à litière avec le plus petit des chatons. Cette journée a été horrible. Orla était très agitée, elle voulait seulement être avec Quda qui elle voulait déplacer les chatons. Orla les ramenait, et ainsi de suite. La plupart du temps Orla voulait être avec Quda et laissait les chatons seuls trop souvent. La seule manière de la garder près des chatons était que Quda soit là.

Les chatons d’Orla ont déjà bu le lait de Quda. Donc je ne pouvais l’autoriser que 24h maximum pour qu’il en reste pour ses chatons à elle. La montée de lait avait déjà été stimulée car Quda laissait Zizo et Zonu têter. J’ai donc du les séparer également. Mais cela a rendu Quda agité et elle les appelait. De plus Orla et Quda ont essayé de convaincre Zizo et Zony de venir dans la boite de mis-bas en les agrippant au cou…

Je pense que vous voyez très bien ma journée à courir partout…

Comme le 30, Quda n’avait toujours pas indiqué qu’elle allait mettre bas et à cause de l’agitation d’Orla, j’ai appelé le véto pour lui dire que je voulais une césarienne. Pour ceux qui ne connaissent pas l’histoire, Quda a eu 2 portés par césarienne auparavant et il y avait une très forte probabilité qu’elle ne puisse pas avoir une mise-bas normale. Mon véto étant au courant, a accepté de faire la césarienne. Rendez-vous pris pour 15h30 le lendemain.

4 magnifiques chatons sont nés : 2 mâles et 2 femelles. A l’issue de la césarienne, Quda a aussi été stérilisée. Je savais que c’était sa dernière portée et prendre la décision d’une césarienne en a été facilitée. De plus je pensais (ou espérais) aussi qu’une fois que tous les chatons seraient là, Orla serait plus calme ce qu’il fallait pour ses chatons.

Cette nuit, un des chatons d’Orla (le plus petit) ne bougeait pas bien. Avant la césarienne j’avais biberonné les chatons ainsi qu’à mon retour. Mais cela n’a pas aidé le chaton et il est mort. Je pense qu’il s’agit du chaton retrouvé dans la litière ou alors il ne se battait pas assez. Ce chaton pesait seulement 62 gr.

Pour terminer sur une note positive, tous les chatons poussent bien. Orla et Quda sont très heureuses et calmes. Regarder les photos.

Il y a seulement 1 femelle chez Orla qui pourrait être Nebelung.
Chez Quda, les 2 femelles pourraient également être Nebelung.
C’est tellement difficile de voir s’il s’agit de var ou de Nebelung.

OMG I got breathless reading the story!!!! You must have been running around like a headless chicken!!!!
But all is well now and mothers are babies are doing fine which is wonderful and now all you have to do is enjoy
